What is SAP Emergency Access Management?

Unpredictable IT emergencies can disrupt any business. With a robust SAP Emergency Access Management (EAM) solution, you remain fully operational at all times. Our solution enables you to handle emergency scenarios in SAP systems quickly, securely, and in full compliance with audit requirements.

But how does EAM work?

In critical situations, authorized SAP users are granted temporary elevated authorization through a so-called “Firefighter” account (Firefighter ID). This approach – also known in the US as “break-glass access”– allows issues to be resolved immediately while maintaining full control.

All activities are fully logged and can be reviewed afterward, ensuring maximum security, transparency, and compliance.

Fast Problem Resolution

Resolve unexpected issues instantly to maintain business operations.

Maximum Security

Controlled, temporary access prevents misuse and protects sensitive data.

Audit-Ready Logging

Detailed logs ensure full traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.

SAP Firefighter Access: Emergency Access in SAP

With SAP Firefighter Access, emergency access can be managed efficiently and securely. This concept allows organizations to grant temporary privileged access to resolve critical issues without compromising system integrity.

What is an SAP Firefighter?

An SAP Firefighter is a user who is granted elevated privileges during an emergency via a Firefighter ID (FFID). The FFID is a dedicated account that is activated only for the duration of the emergency, ensuring strict access control and minimizing risk.

How does a Firefighter ID (FFID) work?

  1. Approval: Access is assigned by the Firefighter Owner

  2. Activation: The Firefighter ID is temporarily enabled

  3. Immediate Issue Resolution: Firefighters perform required actions

  4. Monitoring: All activities are logged in real time and reviewed by a Firefighter Controller

  5. Deactivation: Access is automatically revoked after the emergency

What are SAP Firefighter Transactions (T-Codes)?

Within SAP Emergency Access Management, specific transaction codes (T-codes) are used to manage and execute emergency access functions, including:

  • GRAC_EAM: Central platform for managing Firefighter IDs

  • /GRCPI/GRIA_EAM: Enables decentralized access to Firefighter IDs directly in target systems

How to request Emergency Access

Requesting emergency access follows a clearly defined and controlled process

1.Choose the appropriate model:

    • ID-based Firefighting: A dedicated user account with elevated privileges is created

    • Role-based Firefighting: Additional permissions are assigned to an existing account

2.Submit an access request within the system, specifying whether a Firefighter ID or role is required

3. Approval process: Access is granted after authorization

While emergency access is essential for maintaining business continuity, improper assignment or excessive use can introduce significant risks.
