Identity Management (IDM) 8.0 was released in February 2018. Many changes affect the SAP Identity Management REST interface version 2 (REST API v2). This blog lists and explains all changes to REST v2 SP06. In addition, we provide\u00a0information on how to use these changes in Fiori Applications, using examples from our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/blog\/sap-fiori-xiting-starter-pack-for-sap-identity-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAP Fiori Xiting Starter Pack for Identity Management<\/a>.<\/p><p>The biggest change is that the opensource odata4j library has been replaced by the Apache Olingo library in theOData 2.0 Java library. It uses Open Data Protocol (OData) v2 and supports both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extensible_Markup_Language\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">XML<\/a>-based and JavaScript Object Notation (<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/JavaScript_Object_Notation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JSON<\/a>) formats.<\/p><p>By default, access to REST API v2 is limited to HTTPS. For security reasons, it is recommended to use HTTPS for communication with the REST v2. However, HTTP access to the REST v2 can be enabled by setting the Java system property\u00a0<em>v2.AllowHttp<\/em>\u00a0to true for the restapi-ear application:<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Figure-1-Allow-access-to-REST-API-v2-with-HTTP-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Figure-1-Allow-access-to-REST-API-v2-with-HTTP-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Allow access to REST API v2 with HTTP<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div><p>The previous version of REST API v2 supported the\u00a0<em>&amp;selectSetSVAttributes<\/em>\u00a0keyword to filter out empty return values. This option is no longer supported by the new version. Instead, the Java system property\u00a0<em>v2.ReturnNullValuesInResponse<\/em>\u00a0for the restapi-ear application must be set to false:<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Figure-2-Sort-out-NULL-values.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Figure-2-Sort-out-NULL-values.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Filter out \u201cNULL\u201d values<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div><p>Compared to the previous version of the REST API v2, the new REST API v2 provides stronger and more meaningful error handling. You will receive a clear error message, as in this example of our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/blog\/sap-fiori-xiting-starter-pack-for-sap-identity-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAP Fiori XitingStarter Pack for IDM<\/a>\u00a0when creating and modifying users. In this case, a manager loop was detected:<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Figure-3-Error-message-due-to-manager-loop.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3393\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xiting.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Figure-3-Error-message-due-to-manager-loop.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Error message when looping the manager assignment<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div><p>Other new features of the new REST API v2 include creating new identities, listing identity types, and invoking assignment histories and referenced hierarchies.
